My work intends to express the ambiguity in memory and the impermanence of clear, linear, and organized thought. It is also an exploration into the ways in which memories have an impact on our sense of self. Using a form of photography that requires time to expose in UV light inserts an element of patience and documents the efforts made in attempt to preserve and extend a significant memory. These cyanotype prints are of childhood photos or scenes that evoke feelings of nostalgia, and are then manipulated through processes that mimic how a memory fades, changes, or is lost after time. The approach taken to abstracting each piece varies, and is often determined by emotional responses to the content that is inspired by investigations into personal family history.
